The Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is a 103-acre nature preserve that focuses on education, preservation, and recreation. The swamp opened in 1997 and is home to hundreds of bird species and a variety of flora. Visitors can walk the preserve on gravel paths and boardwalks. You can see many migratory birds during the spring and fall. Other wildlife you’ll likely see are turtles, snakes, and squirrels.
In addition to stunning outdoor areas, the Swamp has a 9500-square foot building that features live-animal exhibits, mineral displays, and a variety of art and ecology exhibits. The nature preserve is operated by the East Baton Rouge Parish Park Systems (BREC).
