Waddill Wildlife Refuge in Baton Rouge

Waddill Wildlife Refuge

Waddill Wildlife Refuge is a 237-acre park and wildlife refuge. The area has hardwood forests and some swamp habitat. The Comite River runs along the park, and past flooding has marked the area with ridges and streams. In 1941, the land was willed to the State of Louisiana by Frank H. Waddill. It has been a wildlife refuge ever since.

The refuge has sprawling nature trails for you to explore tosee the flora and fauna native to Baton Rouge. The park also has picnic facilities, restrooms, and a pavilion for public use. There are two ponds stocked with bass and catfish that visitors can use for fishing. The majority of the facilities at the refuge are wheelchair accessible.

Waddill Wildlife Refuge is a great place to get out into nature and to learn about the local environment. The refuge is managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
